Praying while walking a labyrinth is an ancient form of moving meditation. My family has both a ‘Holy Woman” and a “Holy Man.” My sister earned her PHD in theology and taught for many years at a national caliber Augustin university. My son has been an ordained UM minister.
I remember discussing with my son about the flaw of an labyrinth, with only one path, it is almost Calvinistic. He gently pointed out to me there are many choices in a labyrinth… We can go forward, we can go backwards, we can also be still and not travel the path.
It was my sister who pointed out the beauty of a personal labyrinth. You see, with age, she lost the ability to walk the labyrinth. With her personal sized version she was able to let her finger travel the path.
