I am not sure I will cut this one again. I love the perspective I achieved with the image and motion in the dancers but the perfect face capturing deeply held belief celebrated in worship has eluded me. I will tinker with the image and if the muse smiles on me, I will try it again. PAB November 2021
This image is cut from a 1/4 inch board with paper below it.
I saw Sufi dancers in worship. They whirl as individuals but in close community. They raise one hand to the heavens and the other extended to us to share blessing with the other people in the room. Their dance is not frenetic: it is stylized and in harmony, the dancers are creating community.
When I saw the dancers, we were in a large subterranean common room with wall to wall carpeting. In my mind, I transported them to an exotic, far away space with large tiles on the floor, keyhole windows, and bird images on the wall.
As with all my work, I used my scroll saw in the construction of the art, no computer guided tools.
This cutting is based on my own design.
