This image is cut from maple veneer.
A couple of years ago I cut several labyrinths. I saw an image of two lines nested together labeled the Baltic or goddess labyrinth. I was struck by the spiritual nature of the image and immediately saw a mother and child. An ancient church lyric from Nun Danket sang through my mind “Who from our Mother’s arms has blessed us on our way.”
A long genesis story: when I show this image at art shows, thousands of people stroll by without a second look and then, one will stop, walk up to this image, turn to me and ask how did I capture such sacredness in this image. So this image not for everyone but when it speaks to you: it roars.
As with all my work, I used my scroll saw in the construction of the art, no computer guided tools.
This cutting is based on my own design.
