It must have been eight years ago I developed the idea of stacking puzzles. I wanted a toy that was FUN for everyone. Cutting puzzles from 3/4 board can be challenging to little fingers to line up just right. The beauty of stacking puzzles is there is no wrong answer! Just stack them up and the challenge is up to the individual.
What I did not know, but soon found out is it is a great opportunity for two people to play. Taking turns and cheering each other on is the best.
Another enhancement was the use of a tray to store the puzzles. When my wife suggested it I wondered: “Why would anyone want to put my toy away?” As it turns out, the tray double as a great stage and offered scores of new solutions for stacking.
Oh yeah, They are educational, as the puzzler pushes the envelope to stack the blocks further and further out, they are forced to find the balance points while having good fun.
Please note: Only the Dinosaur and ‘Down by the Sea’ puzzles are my design. I think it was in 2019, the scroll saw magazine I get ran an article about stacking puzzles and other pattern makers have offered their patterns.
